The Hofner Icon Series Violin bass is a made-in-the-far-east interpretation of the iconic instrument that Sir Paul has made universally famous beyond words. Hofner utilizes actual spruce for the top and not quite as actual flamed maple for the sides and back (let us call it “layered maple”), which produces the sweet, warm, round sound that we are so fondly familiar with. The body is considered semi-hollow and the connection of neck to body is “set” just like you will be if you owned this fine bass guitar. The detailing, according to the manufacturer is “authentic and inspired by the original.” The top she is spruce, the sides and back are flamed maple laminated, the fingerboard is rosewood, it has a 22 fret neck, the scale is 30”, and the fingerboard inlays are dotmarkers.
