The LD means long scale, deep body. This is an original conceptualization inspired by the world-renowned work of James Olsen (think James Taylor). The top and bottom bouts are a combination of size and shape never before seen in the guitar- building biz; it is purely David’s design and features Indian rosewood bindings with mitered side purflings at the end graft. The top is bordered in black-white-black fiber purfling with a ring of Hawaiian Koa at the center. Around the soundhole is a ring dramatically decorated with five plies of purfling, two rings of Koa and, in the center, a circle of ebony inlaid with contiguous diamonds in pearl. The fingerboard is black ebony which is also bound in polished ebony, and neo-classical meaning it ain’t got no inlays; there are, however, pearl side dot markers. Its headstock is likewise bordered in three plies of fiber with ebony outermost, and its polished ebony headplate is bestowed with the subtle yet elegant lower case “f” that signifies that everything below was made by the hand of David Flammang (his right hand mostly). Our two-piece top is Bearclaw Sitka spruce that actually came from the State of Alaska (where there’s a town named Sitka); the back and sides are East Indian rosewood; the back of the neck is low oval shape which, with its 1 ¾” nut width provides a hand-filling experience that should, along with the vibrant tone and expansive projection, make any fingerpicker ecstatic. Its scale length is 25.4”; the bridge spacing is 2 ¼”. The internal bracing is, as well, Olsen-inspired, setting this guitar apart in sound from acoustic guitars that seem similar in size and shape. The sound it produces is so bold, so brilliant and so beautiful it could just about make one cry.
