Electric Solid Body Guitars

This guitar, whose original cherry finish is unfaded and nearly unworn, is in amazingly clean condition -- a virtual time capsule. We have never before seen a Gibson Les Paul Junior original cherry double cutaway maintained at this remarkable level of preservation.  That's really saying something!   If you are seeking more excitement than many a body can stand, this is the guitar for you.

This beautiful double sharp-cutaway guitar with four body contours, which bears a special decal on the back of the lower headstock that reads “Anniversary Limited Edition” dual banner decal, is an homage to the first year double cutaway, SG body Les Paul Customs of 1961.  In fact, on the headstock, on the five-part fancy mother of pearl decoration made up of four long, pointed triangles and on each of the seconds is etched a legend:   the first triangle says “19” the second reads “61, the middle block displays in script “30th Anniversary,” the fourth triangle says “19” and the last triangle reads “91.”

One of the most striking and memorable designs in the history of the electric guitar, the Black Beauty is undeniably one of the most important electric guitars of the past 58 years.  Made from mahogany, this model and era guitar is famous for being the “Return of the Single Cutaway” Les Paul after a hiatus of 7 years during which time none were made.   Its frets were decidedly low profile which is why it retained its moniker of “Fretless Wonder.”

The Model 660 and 660/12 feature a charactered Maple cutaway body based on an innovative design from the 1950's. A Rosewood fingerboard is punctuated beautifully with triangular pearloid inlay markers, while the maple double bound neck and body are solid through and through. Rickenbacker's trademark "checkered" black and white binding set off the body, while white binding graces the neck. The 660 is electronically engineered to the exacting standards of the vintage reissue series, complete with Rickenbacker's own vintage reissue-type pickups.

Its original brown exterior case has the pink interior (much like ourselves).    Inside this case are many goodies:  a leather strap, cloth covered cable, all the original Gibson papers and tags, and the certificate that comes with a Custom/Art/Historic model although in the interests of preserving its traditional appearance, the guitar has no Custom/Art/Historic decal behind the nut on the back of the neck.     We present to you one of the most beautiful electric guitar designs as the world has ever seen.

In our industry “originality” is the most important consideration, and this example is brilliantly original.  It is a guitar for which no excuses need ever be made.    This is an instrument that any collector of Fender Stratocasters would give his or her molars to cohabitate with.   It is the crème de la crème, the something that’s superlative, the prize that lies before your eyes.   It is the solid body benefit that befits each Bree or Benny.   You can cast your bet across the net and never find as pure a penguin as is this prodigious pterodactyl.

In case you may have missed this fact, the Fender electric guitar changed the course of modern rock ‘n’ roll history. Leo Fender of Fullerton, California is credited with having popularized the electric solid body. He reasoned, correctly, that he could bolt a slim, easily playable maple neck with a maple fingerboard to a solid body made of alder or ash, add six-strings and the sound that would be created, when amplified through a tube amplifier (also of his manufacture) would actually turn out to do nothing less than change the course of Western music.

This remarkably collectible electric guitar, whose neck dates to November 1955, body to October of the same year, shows normal signs of use and wear overall (nicks, dings, scratches, scrapes, etc.) plus normal wearing through the finish on the maple neck from finger contact, and belt buckle wear on much of the back.   

Here is Rickenbacker’s description: This guitar broke all the rules of traditional styling when it appeared amid the 'British' sound of the 1960's. Subtly updated through the years, this Deluxe hollow body with its special contour around the entire body perimeter, is still perhaps the most comfortable guitar of all. The bound body and rosewood fingerboard, inlayed with triangular pearloid markers, provide an exceptionally attractive appearance. Stereo output is standard.

This extremely collectible, extremely beautiful single-pickup electric guitar shows light normal signs of playing time including wholly expected (as is, we’ll keep the light on for ya’) chips on and around the polished black headplate and headstock.  It has the gold, postwar script "Gibson" decal logo, the decal reading "Les Paul JUNIOR" thereunder, horizontally, and the black, bell-shaped truss rod cover held in place by two Phillips screws above the nut.
