This model is made with select solid tone woods, utilizing innovative designs which produce an unusually resonant instrument with an aggressive response and stellar tone throughout the entire playing range. At the heart of this model is an exclusive top-mounted, specially-treated resonator system. This feature, along with the open brace body design and arched back, creates a tuned-body cavity that generates exceptionally brilliant treble and a bass that is rich and full. By controlling the decay, exceptional clarity is achieved that provides optimum note separation for crisp, clear, finger picking styles. The guitar is surprisingly light; the whole guitar weighs only 6 lbs and 10.5 ounces. The flamed maple bindings on top, back fingerboard and headstock are nearly blinding in their cosmic intensity. The fingerboard width at the nut is just a hair over 1¾” which we consider essential for ease of use with even a small to normal sized hand. The string spacing at the bridge is 2 3/16th” near the saddle. The back of the neck is low profile and by our totally unscientific measurement (done by a ruler) is 13/16th from back of neck to fingerboard, at the 5th fret, but ¾ of an inch in depth at the nut (back of neck to front edge of fingerboard). The sound of a Beard is unlike that of any other resonator guitar that we know of. If you like the open, woody dynamic acoustic response that Jerry Douglas gets when he plays with Alison Krauss and Union Station, but in a round neck configuration, this is precisely the guitar that will make you say “Wow!” every time you play a chord.
