The K series of Breedlove mandolins became an instant classic.  Through the mind and hands of Kim Breedlove, the traditional Florentine shape has been transformed into a more modern, less frilly version of itself.  The American KO has an oval sound hole which provides nice resonance and an open tone.

This is a twelve-fret to the body, slotted headstock guitar that has some traditional and some modern features.  The traditional include what many call African Mahogany sides and back, more properly known as Sapele (with the accent on the middle syllable, it is like the great Brazilian soccer player, Pele, but with the syllable “Sah” in front).  The top is hand-selected Sitka spruce that is completely “clear” – meaning no visual aberrations.  It is close-grained and displays a great deal of cross silking as the finest Sitka does.

This guitar is in fine condition showing only small signs of having been played – a few indications of body contact, a few minor scratches and scuffs on the top, back and sides, nothing horrible, and virtually no sign of use on the back of the neck. This model is made to perfection by some of the best 12-string guitar builders extant.

This guitar shows a few dings here and there, an inexplicable series of dots under the finish at the center bottom of the back, perhaps from contact with a strap or some other device; some nicks and indents (bite marks?) on the headplate.

This is a fairly fancy variation based on a theme of the snakehead type A-style mandolin that’s dressed up, made up, and ready for professional use. The Alpine has an abalone “flying B”-for-Breedlove peghead logo, a colorful abalone flower inlaid there under in a black overlay bordered in crème ivoroid with a black underlay.
